Job Description
Our client in the Not-for-profit sector is seeking a progressive Accountant to join their team, reporting to the Accounting Manager. This position plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations, with a focus on working with the budget managers and working collaboratively across departments. Responsibilities include preparing financial reports, assisting with budgets and forecasts, managing reconciliations, and supporting tax and audit processes. Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements, including variance analysis.
- Prepare projections, forecasts, and supporting working papers.
- Support the annual budgeting process, including development of detailed budgets and related documentation.
- Generate and distribute monthly Management Accountability Reports to budget authorities.
- Provide accounting support for various operations, including journal entries and monthly analysis.
- Prepare and file tax returns (GST, HST, PST) as required.
- Reconcile bank and other financial accounts regularly.
- Act as a resource for budget managers, offering guidance and support in collaboration with the accounting manager.
- Maintain and update the annual budget authority listing.
- Respond to client inquiries and help resolve financial issues.
- Provide backup support for accounts payable, receivable, and weekly cheque processing.
- Support the billing process and respond to customer and account-related inquiries
- Maintain and update digital accounting forms (e.g., expense reimbursements).
Qualifications:
- MUST be pursuing CPA designation
- 2+ years of full-cycle accounting experience, including budgeting knowledge
- Not-for-profit experience an asset
- Must be a strong communicator and detail oriented
