Our Canadian owned and operated services client is seeking an experienced and adaptable Assistant Controller to join its finance team in Hamilton. Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage month-end and year-end close processes, including review engagements.
- Oversee regular cash management and reporting activities.
- Produce comprehensive monthly reports for management.
- Provide mentorship and develop a team of approximately five direct reports, providing guidance on accounting principles, procedures, and best practices.
- Optimize different and evolving accounting systems and manual processes.
- Oversee maintenance and accuracy of the general ledger, ensuring all financial transactions are properly recorded and classified.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Assist with preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Review and approve vendor payments, ensuring proper coding, authorization, and timely disbursement.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax preparers, and other financial consultants.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of highly technical accounting experience, ideally from a small-mid sized public company
- Proven experience in an accounting manager role, encompassing cash management, and the full accounting cycle.
- CPA designation is preferred, but strong, relevant experience will be considered in lieu.
