Job Description

Our large, Canadian owned and operated, service clients in Burlington is looking for a Controller on a contract-to-hire basis! This is a growing company with over 450 employees and opportunities for growth. The individual will report into the CFO, have 4 reports and oversee all aspects of the company’s accounting. The role supports monthly reporting, financial analysis for company ventures, and external audit management, while also supporting M&A activities. The Controller will lead the team by providing coaching, monitoring productivity, and offering performance evaluations.

Please note: this position requires you to be in Ontario and in the local area, as this is a hybrid position.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the accounting department
  • Oversee payroll processes, including approvals and ad-hoc reporting.
  • Assist with M&A activities and related reporting.
  • Ensure timely financial, tax, and governmental reporting.
  • Provide financial analysis for ventures, projects, capital expenditures, etc.
  • Coach and mentor team members for development.
  • Support bank reporting, tracking covenants, and SOFR/CORRA renewals.
  • Manage CapEx, annual budgets, and quarterly forecasts aligned with company goals.
  • Safeguard assets and ensure accurate transaction recording.
  • Monitor team performance and provide feedback, evaluations, and discipline.
  • Address inquiries from supervisors and senior stakeholders on financial matters.
  • Manage the annual external audit.
  • Interface with external insurance agents, credit card companies, etc.
  • Maintain professional and technical expertise.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations: accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing, payroll, inventory, fixed assets, cost accounting, etc.
  • Assist in monthly financial reporting to SLT with budget vs. actual analysis.
  • Lead and implement vision for the accounting team.


Qualifications:

  •  5+ years of accounting experience with some supervisory experience a big asset
  • Strong Excel skills and systems experience
