Job Description
Our client, a dynamic company with a great team, is seeking a driven and experienced Director of Planning to lead and mentor their planning department. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in project oversight, business development, and fostering a positive team culture.

Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of planning professionals.
- Organize and implement urban development projects, disseminating tasks effectively to staff.
- Oversee projects and provide concise synopses of project status to leadership at the beginning of each week.
- Drive business development efforts, engaging with clients and being a forward-facing representative in the community (e.g., attending council meetings, client meetings).
- Interact effectively with staff, clients, and leadership, as well as external consultants such as engineers, environmental consultants, architects, and urban designers.
- Guide the team through all stages of planning projects, ensuring timely progression of files.
- Contribute to the recruitment of additional planning team members as the department grows.
Qualifications:
- Degree or graduate degree in urban planning.
- RPP (Registered Professional Planner) designation and membership with CIP (Canadian Institute of Planners) is preferred.
- 15-20 years of experience in urban development planning.
- Strong leadership and mentorship abilities.
- Proven experience in business development.
- Up-to-date knowledge of planning policies and legislation, particularly in Ontario, and familiarity with the Ontario Land Tribunal process.
- Experience collaborating with external consultants.
- 100% in-office presence is required.
