Job Description

Our Burlington-based client is well established in the ICTi (Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure) industry.  Due to growth, they are hiring a full-time Estimator to analyze plans, specifications and project documentation to estimate costs; source, negotiate and attain quotes for products and services, and assess project financial, technical and operational risks.  This is an IN-OFFICE position, Monday to Friday, based in Burlington.

This exciting role will best suit a career-minded college/university graduate with relevant education and/or previous estimating experience from the construction industry (preferably, ICTi).

Duties:

  • Analyze plans, specifications and other project documentation in order to estimate costs
  • Send out RFIs
  • Prepare accurate material take-offs
  • Research, source, negotiate and obtain best prices and/or quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
  • Analyze data that can affect costs (i.e. currency exchange rates, vendor fulfillment record, etc.)
  • Assess the financial, technical and operational risks of the project
  • Visit project sites to gather information (when required)
  • Stay current with the latest ICT technologies
  • Keep up to date with the latest regulatory and legislative requirements
  • Work closely with key members of the project team, the bid manager, clients and suppliers
  • Keep detailed records, write reports

Job Requirements

  • College or university diploma/degree in electrical, mechanical OR civil engineering, OR construction engineering technology, OR construction project management (or similar program)
  • Proficiency in Office 365, Visio, AutoCAD and Bluebeam
  • Ability to read basic blueprints
  • "G" drivers' licence and clean abstract (to drive company car to job sites when required)
  • Exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, strong problem-solving and multi-tasking skills
  • Positive mind-set, customer focused and a passion for continuous learning
  • Lives within a reasonable commuting distance to Burlington (i.e. Hamilton, Oakville, Milton, Waterdown)
  • Understanding of ICT preferred
