Job Description

Our client, an established and growing real estate development company, has an immediate opportunity for a Construction Project Accountant to join their team! Reporting to the Controller, this position will be responsible for producing accurate and timely accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of real estate development projects, while also working closely with the Construction Team and lenders for monthly construction draws. Our client offers a hybrid work arrangement, 4 days in office and 1 day from home.

Responsibilities:
  • Accurately execute full-cycle month-end close process for multiple development projects
  • Conduct project accounting activities such as reviewing project related vendor expenses, project percentage completion and WIP
  • Responding to information requests from Construction Managers
  • Maintain strict payment draw schedule ensuring all draws are prepared and reviewed according to the standard process
  • Prepare monthly financing draw packages for submission to the lenders / lenders’ cost consultants
  • Prepare Cash Reconciliation between draw funds received and funds to be sent to vendors
  • Guide Project Managers to ensure coding accuracy and in accordance with budgets
  • Support the processing of vendor invoices and purchase orders, as well as coordinating with AP and Construction Managers for payment of invoices.
  • Analyze project costs and ensure their accuracy and validity
  • Monitor monthly activity and maintain a strong understanding of project status
  • Additional duties as required
Qualifications:
  • Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Project Accountant in the construction/real estate development industry
  • Solid understanding of construction draw process with banks/lenders is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as strong organizational skills are required for success in this role
  • This position is ideal for candidates who thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with MS Excel is required
  • Hands on experience with Acumatica and Yardi is an asset
  • This is a hybrid position, working 4 days in the office and 1 from home
