Job Description

Our established client is a precision manufacturer of steel products used around the world.   Their Canadian division based in Burlington has an immediate opening for a QUALITY MANAGER.  This role is perfect for someone with 5+ years' of hands-on experience in leading and maintaining Quality Management Systems in a manufacturing environment, and has an exceptional track-record in driving a quality-focused culture.  Suitable candidates will hold a university degree or related cumulative education related to Quality Assurance, has experience with ISO 9001:2015, and holds ISO9001 Lead Auditor or similar certification.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the organization’s Quality Management System conforms to customer, internal, ISO 9001, and regulatory/legal requirements
  • Ensure evaluation of, and reporting on, customer and vendor quality performance and systems
  • Manage the monitoring, measurement, and review of internal processes, especially those that affect the quality of the organization’s products and services
  • Reports on the performance of the QMS (e.g., results of quality audits, corrective actions, cost of quality, PPM), including the need for improvement
  • Conduct periodic management review meetings and contract review meetings
  • Responsible for the accuracy and timely inspection & calibration of monitoring and measuring devices
  • Keep up to date on standards, regulations/laws, issues, and news with respect to product (service) quality

General and Task Management

  • Develop a robust quality and continuous improvement strategy in partnership with the Management Team and key business stakeholders
  • Develop and contribute towards improvement standards in line with best practice
  • Report on progress of projects, understanding the risks, dependencies, budgets, resources, issues, critical milestones and forthcoming pipeline, and actions necessary to ensure success
  • Produce written reports and make presentations
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems
  • Identify business improvement opportunities within the organization
  • Conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks in the departments

People/Team Management

  • Set objectives/Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and review and assess ongoing performance within the department
  • Report on achievement of targets and identify any actions required
  • Ensure relevant on-going learning and development of all employees in quality and lean improvement tools and communication methods
  • Coach and facilitate teams and individuals to identify and implement improvement opportunities
  • Develop and build a culture of engagement at all levels of the business to provide a highly energized team which is flexible to meet the changing needs of the business
  • Provide technical expertise to the team
  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example and collaborate with the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviours expected of them

 

Job Requirements

 

  • University degree or equivalent related education to Quality, combined with real world work experience
  • 5+ years of experience leading and maintaining QMS in a manufacturing environment required
  • Experience in leading and applying effective organizational change management techniques
  • Experience with training others in QMS and continuous improvement principles, and tool use including; internal audit, root cause analysis as well as corrective and preventive process improvement
  • Experience in implementation and monitoring of program performance, verification and validation methods used in the PPAP process, including experience with statistical and process improvement tools such as root cause analysis, auditing, six sigma, statistical chart preparation and coordination 
  • Previous experience in a supervisory position in a manufacturing environment 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Familiar with use MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Visio or similar) 
  • Experience in partnering with external auditors for surveillance audits is required – experience with 9001:2015
  • Certified ISO9001 Lead Auditor or equivalent required
  • Beneficial certifications include any of the following:
    • Quality Engineer certifications
    • CQM/OE Certified Quality Manager /Organizational Excellence
    • ASQ CQA – Certified Quality Auditor, CQE – Certified
    • Certifications or experience with Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies
