Job Description

Our transportation client has been operating for almost 70 years and is a leading marine service provider. They are looking for their next Risk Manager, Contracts & Claims to join their team in Burlington. This individual will work closely with the Finance department and other departments accordingly, such as Commercial, Operations and Operational Risk Management. The Risk Manager will manage and review new contracts and handle all claims by liaising with insurance brokers and legal counsel.

Please note: this position requires you to be in Ontario and in the local area, as this is a hybrid position.

  Responsibilities:

  • Manage and review contracts related to shipping, chartering, and other services, to ensure compliance
  • Work with operations, insurance, and legal departments to ensure alignment on and review contract terms, claims handling, and incident reporting
  • Maintain a centralized repository for all contracts, tracking key deadlines, renewals, and amendments
  • Gather incident details and submit accurate reports to regulatory bodies, insurers and legal counsel
  • Manage the documentation and reporting of incidents, including marine-related accidents, property damage, and liability claims
  • Liaise with insurance brokers to submit and track claims. Monitor claims progress and provide updates to the teams
  • Coordinate with external legal counsel on claims-related legal matters, such as dispute resolution. Where necessary, assist the legal team with incident investigation, research and gathering evidence, and preparing for potential legal action
  • Develop and maintain a centralized critical documents library for contracts, agreements, claims, and other key documents
  • Utilize e-signature workflow applications and other platforms to streamline the review, approval, and signature process for contracts and related documents


Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience
  • Marine industry experience is strongly preferred
  • Canadian education is a must
